Just the Article.
Just the Article strips news sites and blogs of everything that isn't the article: navigation, ads, “related stories” boxes, comments, newsletter prompts, share buttons, product boxes, AI summaries. What remains is the text with its headline, standfirst, lead image, author and date – in a calm reading view you can copy or print to PDF.
What the extension does
Automatic cleanup
The extension finds the main article on its own. It doesn't rely on Mozilla's Readability algorithm alone (the one behind Firefox's own reader view) – it takes the page's full article container and reduces it deliberately. That keeps elements Readability often discards: the standfirst, the lead image, info boxes, lists at the end of the article. The page's metadata (JSON-LD, Open Graph) acts as a cross-check – if the teaser or the image is missing, they get pulled back in.
Among the things detected and removed:
- Navigation, headers and footers, sidebars
- “Related stories”, “More articles”, link cards with “Read now”
- Share buttons, comment sections, newsletter and subscription prompts
- Ads, product and shopping boxes with affiliate links, affiliate disclaimers
- AI-generated summaries that many publishers now insert
- Date and byline rows (shown cleanly in the source line instead)
Nothing gets lost
Everything the extension removed is listed under “Removed (N)” – along with the reason (before the text, after the text, extras, link block). One click restores the block in its original place. The other way round, leftovers can be removed by clicking: individual paragraphs, images, links or selected text, each with an undo.
Select manually
When the automatic pass doesn't fit an unusual page: right-click the icon → “Select area yourself”, click the article, done. + / – grows or shrinks the selection.
Side-by-side view
By default the original window moves to the left half of the screen and the cleaned version opens on the right. Closing it restores the window. If you'd rather not have that, turn the side-by-side view off in the right-click menu and get the reading view as a normal tab.
Read the way you want
The Aa button controls typography and layout – like Firefox's reader view, only with better fonts. Four presets by use case set everything at once:
| Preset | Font | Size | Line height |
|---|---|---|---|
| Read on screen | Source Sans 3 | 17 px | 1.6 |
| Print / PDF | Source Serif 4 | 16 px (≈ 12 pt) | 1.5 |
| Large, clear type | Atkinson Hyperlegible | 21 px | 1.7 |
| Compact | Source Sans 3 | 15 px | 1.4 |
Beyond that, everything is adjustable: text size, font weight, content width, line, letter and word spacing, text alignment. Fonts are grouped by purpose with recommendations; Source Sans 3, Source Serif 4, Atkinson Hyperlegible, Merriweather and Inter ship with the extension and work offline.
Copy and print
- Copy text – plain text
- Copy HTML – with formatting, e.g. for Word or email
- Copy Markdown – for note apps and wikis
- PDF / print – via the Firefox print dialog; optionally with page numbers (“Page 3 of 7”) in A4
- Images, links and the source line can be shown or hidden before exporting
The source line carries the author, the date with time, and a link back to the original page.

No data, no accounts
Just the Article collects no data. Everything runs locally in the browser; no content is sent to a server, no statistics are gathered, no account is needed. The extension asks only for the permissions it needs: access to the currently active page (only after you click), the clipboard for copying, and local storage for your settings.
